So I thought I'd put together an index, as I was constantly searching around my blog for the right entries. Hopefully, others will find it useful as well!

I'm in the process of trying to standardise all of my entries' formatting now I have the required help to start the Indonesian part of my efforts. From now on, all entries should have a link to their other language counterpart, if in existence.

When the only comm posting (locked to members!) the full length creator-interview has a giant 18+ only banner on their profile + stupid application process, it makes me hate people a little bit more.

This is especially ridiculous because it's a goddamn shounen (ie for 12-18yo boys) manga.

>:( well fuck you all and the horse you rode in on.

It's lucky this isn't actually one of my main fandoms, or I'd be seriously pissed.

fail and more fail ._.

In Australia, video games are allowed to show the graphic dismerberment of humans... but not zombies.

Because, y'know, that would be wrong.

lolwut.

Man, our classifications system is such a joke. I especially like how they had to invent a new content warning just for it ("science fiction violence" wtf) Kinda like with Juno where it was "teen pregnancy" -- wtf kind of classification is that!?

Though I do think this appeal has shown the board are just a bunch of pushovers... "oh alright... I guess you can have the MA rating..." The only reason it got the rating is because the publishers didn't back down and take out the offensive content -- how else could this game have gotten through but not Left for Dead 2?

Speaking of failtastic OFLC... well not quite. The fail isn't quite their fault this time.

The OFLC changed the guidelines for showing sex after 9pm, the MA-rated timeslot

Previously, the industry's code of practice required sex to be portrayed discreetly[*]. But the new guidelines only require sex scenes to follow the storyline and not be high in impact.

Well, that... makes sense. Even more sense than the previous guideline, in fact! So what is the problem?

(*haha I take it that didn't apply to the SBS...?)

Ros Phillips, the [Christian Family Voice group's] national research officer, says she is concerned that it waters down the guidelines to allow explicit pornography at 9pm, "when many children are still watching".

Anyone tuning in after 9pm to see porn is going to be very disappointed. Even non-explicit softcore porn is R-rated, which (still, this hasn't changed) isn't allowed to be broadcast on TV.

WTF has this person been watching?

Oh, right:

"Absolute ... [a scene in Californication that was complained about] was a threesome and it was extremely explicit," she says. "I won't go into details, but if it wasn't for that word 'discreetly' in the guidelines, that complaint wouldn't have been upheld."

Yeah, she sure seems to know an awful lot about this scene.

I haven't actually seen it myself... but yeah, it got an MA rating. Therefore, it cant have been that bad.

Also, who the fuck would let a kid watch a program called 'Californication'? What did they think it was going to be about?

I meant to post this last night and got distracted. XD Oh well.

One last thing. I encountered some pretty astounding fandumb/entitlement that I feel I must share.

The new Pokemon games are already released in Japan, in will be released in english in about 4mths or so.

Sounds pretty good, right?

But, NO.

'Why does Japan get it first!? It should be released in english first!!1!'

wat.

GEE, IDK. MAYBE BECAUSE IT'S Y'KNOW, A FREAKIN' JAPANESE GAME? BY A JAPANESE COMPANY AND DEVELOPERS? AND WAS ORIGINALLY IN JAPAN YEARS BEFORE IT BECAME POPULAR IN ENGLISH-SPEAKING MARKETS?

Wow, that is so stupid and entitled I have no idea what to say.

Ignoring the whole "Japanese companies should only ever please me, the english-speaking market"!fail... Complaining about a mere 4mths wait?

Well, geez I hate to fucking break it to you but that is an unbelievably good time.

a) most things like that wont ever leave Japan/be translated (eg. the KH final mixes plus the volumes of supplementary material, despite the series' enourmous popularity! wtfff);

b) if they do, well you better put on your waiting shoes. Most localisations take a good 6mths at least.

c) You aren't in America? Well, fuck yousorry, PAL releases take even longer. That's if they even get released (eg Re:CoM *raeg* I am not fucking paying the same price to import from America when I can get the whole of KH2FM+ for the same price! There is absolutely no reason Re:CoM cant be released in Europe/Australia; I refuse to pay for an expensive import of an english game. /rant)

(d) And Australia? lol good luck getting even a PAL-released game, and for only double the price!)

Not to mention this is a DS game and the DS is not region-locked, so if it soo important to get it RIGHT!! NOW!! they can just suck it up and learn Japanese ;P At least that might give them some sympathy for the official translators*...

(*The reason this fail came up in part was that the english release got delayed or something. 'Cause y'know, that's totally the translators fault.)

*facepalm* And this came from someone usually quite sensible. I hate to think what the rest of the fandom is like then >.<

(Also general question. Damn, even after 3 times, I am really having trouble trying to phrase this... how do I say it?

I am in a few japanese-media-based fandoms... idk, I have utmost respect for the works and their creators, accepting it is a Japanese work (and not really getting why this would be a question in the first place...)

If a (
proper) english translation happens at all, that's pretty cool, but I wouldn't ever... well, expect(?) this...?

So, I guess what I'm getting at is -- holy fuck ...do the majority of english-speaking fans of japanese media really have such a sense of entitlement!?

._. man, no wonder the Japanese have a stereotype of us being arrogant dicks...

I was absolutely
floored when I heard those comments yesterday, to me it just seemed just so disrepectful! If this is really how most english-speaking fans think, fuck, I am so ashamed of my language group right now D:)

purple
Oh in the other "wow Australia, you really suck news"... the video game R18+ classification disucssion paper thing got released.

tbh, looking at the arguments against the rating... they are just so flimsy and pathetic (and some not even making sense), I really cant see how the government can possibly refuse to get in an R18+ rating without it looking like a complete rort.

(For those non-Australians reading, a summary of the issue is as follows: All video games must be classfied/rated to be sold in Australia. The highest rating for video games is "MA15+"/"suitable for mature audiences 15+ only" and is also restricted to buy. If it doesn't meet that rating criteria the game is Refused Classification and banned from sale. So, all video games in Australia must be suitable for a 15 year old kid to play. Yes, really. 5 games have already been banned this year including the popular Left For Dead 2.)

I really did have a hard time choosing the stupidest objection to comment on, so here are all the 'reasons' we cant have an R18+ rating

Some of the arguments presented in opposition to the R18+ rating include:
- Games should be treated differently from films because of the "negative effects of interactivity on players".

lol yeah funny that. I do agree... but why would that be against an R18+ rating...? If anything, it would be for one, since y'know, we could then rate these games with a higher impact properly, and restrict them so kids can access unsuitable content.

- It would be difficult for parents to enforce age restrictions for computer games.

...uh.

Why would an R18+ rating change that?

Seriously. Kids couldn't buy a R18+ ie "restricted for sale to over 18yo's only" game, so they wouldn't be playing it... unless the parents bought it for them.

In which case there is a really fucking obvious solution to this problem, and if the parents cant figure it out, they are too stupid to have kids.

- A higher quantity of games would be released with higher level content that minors could access.

Once again, the whole "but think of the kiddies omg!!".

It's an R-freakin'-18+ rating.

How is it a plausible arguement that "kids might access it"? The whole entire point of an R18+ rating is so that kids cant. (I do agree with what I've read elsewhere... plenty of games rated 17+ or 18+ overseas have been shoehorned into a MA15+ rating here -- where kids can access it. Getting an R18+ rating would solve that problem.)

- Indigenous communities and other non-English speaking people may not be able to understand the classification labels.

Wow, cant you just smell the desperation?

It's almost funny except for the fact that we can argue against crap all we want and those morons will still get their way >.>

Obvious rebuttal a) So get the material translated like everything else. Not to mention the "R18+" is kinda a giveaway even if you don't speak english

Obvious rebuttal b) If that is true then we better get rid of the whole entire classification system, amirite? Non-english speaking people might not understand all those classification labels!

Elephant in the room point a) Isn't that point... uh, kinda offensive to Indigenous communities? Nice to know racism is still alive and well >.>

- There is no demonstrated need to change existing restrictions.

Ok that fact this discussion paper even exists should point otherwise, but hey, let's all put our fingers in our ears and start humming. Maybe this will all go away...

*sigh* Yeah, this is why everyone I know just either imports or pirates (or both) video games. Isn't Australia fan-fucking-tastic?

Anyways, since the government is "consulting" about this issue, you can have your say by filling in and emailing/posting/etc this form here.

In an attempt to end this on a non-depressing note, here's what Peter Costello said in The Age today.

Voters will stop listening if they detect a whiff of a superiority complex.

...hahaha.

He's actually talking about the Greens, btw.

Well, he might have mentioned the Liberals, but I wouldn't know because I, uh, stopped listening *snerk*

On Lateline tonight, Barnaby Joyce discusses the underpants Tony Abbott was wearing during their awkward meeting the other day. (Joyce showed up and Abbott's house/flat hotel room very late at night to give him support for the leadership. Abbott answered the door in his underwear. Awkwardness ensued XD)

Barnaby Joyce: [Tony Abbott] was wearing a very becoming pair of black underpants, Tony, *wtflook* ...Do you want me to tell you more?

NO. DO NOT WANT.

...I didn't need to know that. Ever. :|

I was out of the room so I missed the first bit of the interview, but I'd really like to know how they ended up on that topic. (Well, I can take a fair guess it has to do with that photo of Abbott in speedos from the weekend. But still XD WTF.)

I cant sleep :/

As unexpected as Abbott's win was, perhaps there is an explanation.

The three-cornered contest between Mr Abbott, Mr Hockey and Mr Turnbull meant two separate ballots, and the kindly moderates - that section barracking for Hockey - believed Mr Turnbull would be knocked out first but felt it would be a shame to humiliate him by denying him a respectable first-ballot figure.

Too many of them thought the same thing, and Mr Turnbull scored more votes than Mr Hockey, tossing Big Joe clean out of the contest.

oh fuck.

Abbott won because... because Hockey's supporters were too nice...?

WHAT THE FUCK. In trying to be nice, they just elected the most UNnice guy in the whole damn party!

God, this is so fucking depressing. ;-;

Abbott wasn't elected because the Liberals want to commit political suicide or something, he got elected because the other side was trying to be nice.

I never ever thought there would be a day that I would be *facepalm*-ing because the Liberal Party was being too nice. This is the mostinsane thing to happen in this whole mess.

''God almighty,'' one of [the moderates] wailed after the party had accidentally elevated the decidedly non-moderate Abbott as its new leader. ''What have we done?''

[...]

''We're lovers, not fighters,'' one of the astonished Hockey supporters stammered.

Holy fuck, the whole entire moderate faction must be devastated right now.

Oh, and the rest of that article is basically "Tony Abbott is a complete dick". And it doesn't even list half the crap he's done >.>

(Also I had starting fic writing just before I read that article, thinking now the spill was over there would be no more huge relevations to change everything :| *nothappy* THE POLITISLASH I WRITE IS MEANT TO BE LULZY, THIS IS JUST DEPRESSING D:<)

In Abbott's favour [of reuniting the Libs] are his pretty good temperament and energy. His time as health minister shows he can be inclusive and pragmatic - but also divisive. It remains to be seen whether he can translate the better qualities to his new job.

...uh. Ok then. O.o

wtf ...I think this is supposed to be serious, but apart from 'energy' and 'divisive' those are not words I would use to describe Abbott. Ever.

OH GOD GUESS WHO DID AN OPINION PIECE IN TODAY'S AGE?!

Peter Costello.

XD yes, this is awesome!

It's great... the first part is just bitching about Turnbull, then it gets into why Turnbull was wrong etc

Mostly it's just complaining about how much Turnbull sucks XD I didn't detect too much bitterness... ;P

I wont quote anything (how can I pick? XD) but it is well worth reading.

Now, do you think Costello might have been waiting to step in and fling shit everywhere? XD Now all we need is Kennett's opinion....

Tony Jones: blahblah and we will be talking to former Turnbull-ally, Christopher Pyne.

Former.

Wtf when did that happen..?

Looking at the photos of Turnbull earlier, you can see Pyne hanging around in the back of most of them! XD

And, one of the first things Tony Abbott did as leader was to appoint Pyne as manager of opposition business.

Right.

I'd really like to know what's going on there, because I was under the impression Abbott quite openly hated Pyne. (Oh, and Pyne said he has admired Abbott for 17 years or something, but also that he voted for Turnbull today. wait, what?)

My mum was nice enough to let me get on the computer to post this :D Will hopefully be back again later.

Oh my god, informalvoter!MP, you are awesome.

They reportedly wrote "no." on the ballot paper.

What's the opposite to a Big No? Is it a Little No or a Small No? (Yes, I'm talking about TVTropes. I don't want to go find a link... that'd be dangerous XD Anyway, I think it's hilarious, because that's how I imagined it.)

Also Joe Hockey had a press conference at like 11:45. I found a live feed, but missed the first half of it. *facepalm*

Reading what he had to say is depressing, I really do think he got fucked over in this :/

(Abbott said he wouldn't step aside and then didn't... that fact that he is "exhilarated" to be leader, clearly indicates he's only been in the job a few hours and already needs his ego deflated >.>)

There are some great photos on The Australian. I like this one, don't those MPs all look THRILLED? "Not this shit again..." XD

I also liked the "Turnbull's Exit" gallery. It's not actually from TODAY. It's from yesterday, when after visiting Hockey at his office, Turnbull tried to sneak out a back exit of Parliament House, but was caught my photographers on the the stairs.

Though the sad, dejected looking Turnbull in this photo could totally have been from today.

From today's there was also the photo on this page, which was on the front page of the paper today. I especially like the caption: Happier times between Malcolm Turnbull and Joe Hockey back in 2007 XD Geez, how depressing do they want to make it sound.

Then there is also this photo of Hockey from his press conference today. The angst, it writes itself, I swear!

idk where this post was even going.... I went to the newsagent with my mum (to grab copies of The Age and The Australian of course.... even having read all the articles online already I still want a copy) and somehow this ended up taking over an hour.

wtffff, now I'm hot and tired >.> brb getting some sleep, will respond to comments, and hopefully making more sense then.

Ok, now I've had time to think about it...

Still: wat.

It's like the Liberal Party sat down and decided "Hm, now how can we make drama this even more ridiculous!"

WTF JUST HAPPENED.

Also, wtf, Hockey!

He didn't ever even make a press conference about running, and now it's all over.

):< Where was my drama and lulz!?

It was one vote. So close.

N'aww poor Turnbull. He was so close to doing the impossible and holding on to the leadership.

(Though DOES this mean he was betrayed by Hockey or not... because I'm sure Hockey kept his word and only ever put up his hand after the position became vacant ;P I think that's a betrayal in spirit though)

Turnbull will be making a press conference... about now, actually. haha, so I shall wait until that until I hit 'post'

haha I first thing I noticed was what sounded a hell of a lot like a pause of gritted teeth when he mentioned congratulating Abbott. XD Oh well, he's entitled to, I think.

(And yes, I am disappointed he didn't even mention Hockey ;P)

oh my fucking god. They just said.

There was an informal vote.

One
informal vote.

It could have been a tie.

D: WHY DIDNT THIS HAPPEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME!!

In conclusion:

"Politics is a serious business." Yes, one of the MPs the ABC are talking to just said that XD IT'S SRS BUSINESS YOU GAIZ.

ETA: haha, according to the ABC Abbott's first job will to be to calm everyone down (and bring unity etc) Yeah, that's going to work. XD

Nevermind oh god, results.

Hockey did run. And was elminated on the first vote :(

The final vote was Turnbull vs Abbott

42-41

Abbott won.

I went to TVTropes just now... the page is full of red links. Like, to pages that should actually be there D:

D: D: D:

Nevermind, in the time it took me to come here and post it seems to have fixed itself. Thank god, I was rather worried *is lame*

(I was linked there from this hilarious [info]weepingcock entry. Best use of censorship I've seen XD)

I got all my present shopping done today! YAY.

This is like the first year I have actually had any kind of income, and it is FUCKING AWESOME to be able to spoil my little brothers like this! :3 I hope they are pleased with what I got for them.

Onto the important news -- Liberal leadership spill tomorrow! My face is going to be stuck like :D all day.

(But I'm pissed off... I cant get a decent reception to listen to ABC news radio.... so I guess I'll just have to spend tomorrow breaking the F5 key XD)

The bit I love about today's news coverage is that everyone, and I mean everyone, has decided that Hockey will become leader tomorrow.

Except, er, Joe Hockey himself. XD

tbh, I am kinda resigned that Hockey isnt going to run... and we'll end up with Abbott.

But if he doesn't run... poor Malcolm. Betrayed and alone. He doesn't really have anyone left that'd actually support him, does he? XD Is Pyne still with him?

(Also of minor note... in that interview on the weekend, Turnbull said that Hockey and himself were "at one" on the issue on the ETS legislation. Not about leadership or in general. Nice editing there, ABCNews ;P)

"He (Hockey) said he will vote against a spill," Turnbull said.

However, he would not offer any further details about his conversation with Hockey, or whether Hockey would challenge him if the spill went ahead.

Huh? wait, wait, wait...

But isn't there ALREADY going to be a spill? And lol at the last bit. I never even thought of that... I didn't even know spills worked that way. wtf.

Turnbull said he and Hockey were close friends[*] and had similar views on a wide range of issues. But he said he wasn't going to run a commentary on Hockey.

lolclosefriends. Anyway. If Hockey does betray him, I really hope Turnbull does decide to provide some commentary. :D I cant decide if it would be more lulzy or depressing. (Yes, I am incredibly pathetic and feel slightly sorry for Turnbull... I mean, he's not actually that bad.)

*The quote is:"Joe and I are very good friends. We talk a lot, we have very similar views on most issues, we’re very good friends, our families are very close, he’s a good man," he said.

Wow, did you get the fact they are VERY GOOD FRIENDS?

The rest of the first linked article is a fairly funny... idk, script-format fanfic, I guess XD

However, my absolute favourite line from that is:

After all I've done. Surrounded by pathetic nobodies.

*snerk* yes, I am a gigantic KH nerd, care to take a guess how I read that?

But there was some praise for Mr Turnbull.

"At least he's had the honour to be consistent pretty well all the way through,'' Family First senator Steve Fielding said.
hahaha, if that is the best praise he got... yeah, that's sad XD It doesn't even come from his own Party! I mean, even I have better praise for him than that.

A good article is Michelle Grattan's analysis of Hockey and the leadership here. <3

The real reason for Hockey's reluctance is that he fears he won't be able to stop the party going backwards at next year's election, and that he will then be moved on by the Liberals before he gets a real chance at the prime ministership.

D'aww, poor thing~. XD I think if he lets Abbott lead, then Hockey might just find himself with a lot less collegues in the House.

He has on his side that he has a good public image (how else does he lead Nielsen and Newspoll today as preferred Liberal leader?). But he has not shown himself an innovative thinker; he can be thin-skinned when criticised; he is not highly energetic. All those things will need to change, and he will have to scout for the best staff available, crucial to an effective Opposition leader.

To be honest, yes, I can see why Hockey would not make a very good Prime Minister.

However, Opposition Leader... I think he'd do well. He's good at being, well, likeable; with those awesome ~people skills~ of his and that would suggest he is good at listening (something most politicians really fail at). And he would also do a good job at keeping Rudd on his toes about any issues that come up XD (See I do in fact want a Rudd/Hockey election for reasons other than the politislash potential ;P)

But one thing I am curious about:

He can be thin-skinned when criticised

? Hm, anyone have any examples of that, because I a)cant recall any (not that that says much...) ;and b)it seems surprising to me! XD idk why, it just struck me as odd.

Anyway... goddamn it. Time for bed I think. I'm exhausted after today and I have to get up early tomorrow so I can watch all the excitement happen, after all XD

Sorry for any ridiculous typo's, or general nonsensicality in the post... I'm too tired to go over everything properly x.x I'll check it in the morning... XD

Eww... why was it necessary to have extended footage of Abbott in a speedo on the news?

(And what is it with Liberal politicians and speedos! ;P)

Anyway - headline news -- Hockey is almost certainly going to betray Turnbull despite Turnbull saying that he has Hockey's complete support. (Something about they are 'at one'... I heard that on he ABC news just now... cant find any reference/transcript online >:/)

XD I DID find this though:
"If Joe was the cuddly, friendly face of the Liberal Party but spouting Nick Minchin's lines, that would destroy him and destroy the party," Mr Turnbull said.
"He knows that. He's got too much character to be suckered into that.
"I will win on Tuesday. I am unbowed.
"Joe Hockey has told me as recently as last night that I have his complete support.

D'aww.

Poor Turnbull. XD

(And this may has ruined the fic I have half-written... XD rewrite time I guess)

Anyway the reason it seems Hockey has made his decision is that he met with Peter Dutton today at his house. (And he went to see Howard or something. There was a picture ABC news showed... I know Hockey DID actually go see Howard, but wow that picture looks so photoshopped!)

haha -- and Peter and mum said nothing interesting in politics happens on weekends!

I'm rather excited right now... but annoyed because I'm at Peter's and his internet is so slow and I cant go read all the various news articles right now like I want to XD not fair!

As for the latest political developments...

Asked if he thought he would be defeated on at the party room meeting on Tuesday, Mr Turnbull said: ‘‘I will win. I will be confirmed as leader.’’

‘‘I’m confident my colleagues will maintain their support for me but it is of course up to them.’’

Now... uh, considering this whole mess started because Turnbull announced that everyone agreed to something they actually didn't...

Was this REALLY the best thing he could think of to say? haha wasn't he even saying the other day he work on his people skills?

And Hockey still hasn't said anything about his intentions, though Turnbull has:
Mr Turnbull said he has the support of opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey to remain as opposition leader.

"He and I have been at one on this," he told reporters in Sydney.

Is Turnbull a) correct; b) actually believe what he is saying though?

And Hockey betraying Turnbull will be even more lulzy if Turnbull actually believed what he said there XD

I don't think that will happen though, nor is it what I want the most. Just an amusing possibility...

Swan is also urging Hockey to stay loyal and not go for the leadership. (Mostly because, y'know, with Abbott as leader the Liberals would fail very very hard at the next election. As a Turnbull supporter even points out here.)

Also, interesting is of how it now seems decided that Hockey is with Turnbull.
Speaking in Trinidad at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) where climate change has become the number one issue, Rudd said Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull and treasury spokesman Joe Hockey need to push the bipartisan deal through.

Rudd turned up the heat on Turnbull and Hockey to live up to their end of the bipartisan deal.

"Remember the government and the Liberal Party under Mr Turnbull and Mr Hockey were constructively to reach this bipartisan deal on climate change to pass the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

Both the journalist and Rudd himself here are constantly referencing the 2 together... sorry, Bishop, seems no one actually cares about you even as the deputy lol

I am certain Hockey was not this 'involved' in the deal before, did I miss something big that happened today?

Anyway the actually point of the previous linked article -- Rudd has said he wont call an early election.

Hm, I really cant decide if I (personally) think that's a good thing or not; as it is, missing out on voting by a few months, or a few weeks? A few months might make it less painful ;P

XD Either way: Having a december birthday sucks! Speaking of which -- I get to enroll soon! :D I am so excited about that, it's going to be great!

Ah, I seem to have found The Age's main news article for today... (why would you not link it visibly on the front page! ):<)

Here seems to be a good summary of the current leadership situation:

Mr Abbott said he would stand for leader, but indicated he was willing to stand aside for shadow treasurer Joe Hockey. ''If Joe is the right man to unite the party that is fine by me.''

Mr Hockey, a moderate who would get right-wing support if he stood, has said he will not run against Mr Turnbull but has indicated he would contest if Mr Turnbull stood aside.

lol, oh dear.

I really don't think Turnbull is going to budge on this, judging from his comments today. He obviously isn't listening to anyone... hm, maybe Hockey could convince him otherwise? XD Hockey was presented as Turnbull's "voice of reason" a few days ago, and Hockey never said he wouldn't try to do such a thing.

Ian Macfarlane, Mr Turnbull's chief negotiator on the emissions scheme, said: ''I've told Malcolm … he has the numbers and it is his call.''

haha, wait what? So is it possible, Turnbull isn't ignorant, he is just delusional with false information?

Aww, man. D: Now I really feel sorry for him. How is he going to feel after he gets thrashed on Tuesday...?

Also related to the above:
Mr Turnbull said he believed he would be retained as leader ''but it is up to the party room''. He expected Mr Hockey to support him: ''I believe he will.''
D'aww, if the last bit is false information too, he's going to be completely crushed...

Oh god, I have found my favourite quote of the day!

Senate [sic] Minchin said: ''I have been involved in the Liberal party for 30 years and I don't remember anything as difficult or painful or traumatic as this.''

And I, in my mere 17 years alive, have never seen anything so... so... schadenfroh (yes, that is the adjective form of Schadenfreude)

It's beautiful <33333

I look forward to next week... I am sure the Schadenfreude will continue no matter what the outcome :D

(As unlikely as it is... I think it would be amazing if Turnbull held on as leader -- that would cause more uproar than a leadership change I think! XD Dunno how it would happen though... maybe Hockey puts his awesome people skills to use?)

Holy crap, the Liberals really ARE imploding, aren't they?

cut for boringness and length lol )

Haha I think I have found my favourite article for the day...

Before he left, the Prime Minister
delivered a valedictory speech in which he exhorted Parliament's combatants to love each other a little more.

Love-starved Malcolm Turnbull eagerly took up the theme.

"Love is what makes us human," he soared in a moving aria of response to the PM. "So often we do not love enough. So often we deny or suppress or set to one side our love for each other. Surely this is the time of year when we should be loving and generous to all people, but particularly to our families."

It was a lovely duet between Mr Rudd and Mr Turnbull, who have been showing distinct signs of liking each other - on White Ribbon Day, for example, they were practically holding hands.

Yes, that is what Turnbull actually said ;P I just looked it up in the hansard to make sure.

D'aww I guess Turnbull is feeling a little unloved with all the leadership woes. *brbwritingfanfic* Also, with the last paragraph... hm, Rudd/Turnbull/Hockey?

>.> And my mother is home... nooo~ Having only one computer sucks. :/ I think I covered everything that happened... XD when I was blogging before, I was covering it "as it happened" sorta, everything is all mixed up in my mind now. Oh well.

Turnbull survives!

He did it! XD

Malcolm Turnbull has survived an attempt by his critics to bring down his leadership, ending a potential challenge to his leadership from former Howard government minister Kevin Andrews.

:D omg, yay!!

Andrews is in big trouble now lol.

Also, this DOES leave a chance for the leadership to be passed to Hockey at later date. (Which is what I'm hoping for of course XD)

I also like to think Hockey helped with his dragging people out of QT yesterday to convince them to support Turnbull. XD D'aww does that make him a knight in shining armour?

Urgh, social worker is here, and I asked for time to post this, so haha better get back to talking her oops...

The Liberal leader had thrown a tantrum and was being comforted by Joe Hockey.

Oh god, how did I miss this earlier:

Turnbull's whereabouts were unclear, but lavish rumours were abroad.

The Liberal leader had thrown a tantrum and was being comforted by Joe Hockey.

He had just popped out for a sandwich.

No - he was about to be rolled in a leadership vote.

In the Canberra gloaming, all sorts of rich and exotic possibilities loomed.

...

That the best thing I have read all day.

And it would explain why Hockey isn't running.

<3333

It could only have been worse had Joe Hockey turned on the leader. Hockey stayed loyal, dragging people out of question time to vent against Robb and urge support for the leader.

N'aww, I really should have watched QT yesterday dammit! XD

OHGOD

Opposition whip Michael Johnson has confirmed a leadership spill will be held at the 1pm meeting.

:D AJLSD;H;SDHJGHSDK;G

It’s a two-horse race, with Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey ruling himself out as a contender.

... N-NO

D:

b-but... why? that isn't fair D:

omg this sucks.

I really should stop reading the news as soon as I get up in the morning. lol zero to RAEG that quickly cant be good...

Here's a headline for you:

Canberra's same-sex service under fire

Ok, that doesn't seem to bad, probably just some stupid Christian group as usual--

A FEDERAL push is gathering pace to scuttle civil union ceremonies for gay couples in the national capital.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said no decision had been made to override the Australian Capital Territory laws.

But federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland has asked ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope to rethink the use of a ceremony to create a same-sex legal relationship. He said the Labor platform backed uniform registration-based civil partnerships schemes across the nation.

Fucking bastard.

This is ridiculous... is he trying to say Christians own - Christians own the sole rights to have ceremonies!?

The Australian Christian Lobby says the ceremonies are ''mimicking marriage''.

*headfuckingdesk* Yeah, well can I say the ACL are a pathetic imitation of Christianity?

All the compassionate, non-bigoted Christians must just about die of shame every time the ACL opens its big mouth ._.

Anyway, once you get over that sheer idiocy of the A-G and ACL, there IS some good news in the article....

As of last week, gay couples in Tasmania have been able to hold official ceremonies to mark their unions and last weekend at the Victorian Labor conference, a motion was backed supporting gay marriage and the ACT laws.

The Federal Government has powers to override territory laws but not those in the states.

[...]

Mr Stanhope
[Premier guy of the ACT] is unwilling to budge. ''Our position is an absolute commitment to the people of the ACT … to remove all discrimination against gay and lesbian couples,'' he said.

<3 Nice to know there ARE some good politicians still around.

Also -- Liberal leadership woes! I love this topic :D

I should start from the start... what happened last night, but it was amazing and I wanna cover that bit last :D so:

Emerging from a series of tumultuous party room meetings, Mr Turnbull last night was forced to assert his authority, declaring: ''The party room is committed. I'm the leader. I've made the call.''

His statement came after West Australians Wilson Tuckey and Dennis Jensen called for a special meeting of Liberal MPs tomorrow to decide the leadership issue.

Tuckey? oshi- things must be serious!

I almost feel sorry for Turnbull (and yet I am sitting here grinning, oh well). He really does sound like he's trying to reassure himself there... D'aww XD (Even if that quote was describing as him being "forced to assert his authority")

But one of the likely alternative leaders, shadow treasurer Joe Hockey, told The Age late last night: ''There's no vacancy and I'm not a candidate.''

D: ....? But that's not fair, he is the best guy for the job! *sadface* I hope he changes his mind...

The intentions of the other main alternative, frontbencher Tony Abbott, were unclear.

NNNOOOOOOOO.... Abbott needs to stay well well away from the leadership. Fuck, he could still be an annoying smarmy little prick on the backbench, the leadership would be horrific D:

lol... I like these paragraphs:

It is believed that under Liberal Party rules, it would be up to Mr Turnbull to call the meeting.

[...]

Asked about the possibility of a leadership challenge, he said: ''If people are unhappy … they can take whatever steps they deem appropriate.''

Haha... ILU Turnbull.

Mr Andrews told The Age he did not think Mr Turnbull could ignore the call for the special meeting to test his leadership. ''I will be a candidate,'' he said. ''I believe we need to reconnect with the grass roots of our party and with the Australian people.''

:< lolno.

Mr Tuckey raised the spill in the party room discussion, and later accused Mr Turnbull of ''spitting the dummy'' after 40 Coalition MPs spoke against the ETS and only 33 backed it.

So, this would be how Turnbull "asserts his authority" then? :D

AND because I was so concentrated on all the delicious woes contained in the article, I forgot the page picture!

Yep, looks pretty pissed there, and giving the camera the finger subtly? How very impolite! XD

My mum also told me that it's an aggressive position -- men point towards their groin either as a sexual gesture or to show dominance XDDD (and poor Malclom still fails at "asserting his authority" ;P)

sorry, probably should add a cut XD click for more exciting quotes (plus my boring commentary) )

(Unrelated, I'm using internet explorer (I cant use firefox at the moment *sob*) and when visiting The Age, IE's number one "suggested site" is the Herald Sun

Also, can South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson please go fuck himself get his head removed from his arse?

Wow. He really has outdone himself with idiocy this time. (which is saying something >.>)

Atkinson To Appeal Modern Warfare 2 MA15+ Classification

Here are some choice quotes. They get more and more ridiculous as the article goes on...

“What I want the Classification Board to do is to apply the guidelines properly. What I don’t want is the extremely violent, sexually depraved, drug use games in Australia at all. At the cinema, we can stop people under 18 going in to see R18+ rated movies. We can’t stop these games that are extremely violent and depraved from getting into the home or getting into the hands of children.”

At first that sounds like general idiocy... yes, Australia doesn't in fact have a R18+ classification for video games. And you know why?

BECAUSE THIS GUY SPECIFICALLY REFUSES TO ALLOW ONE.

WHAT. Then how... how can he possibly argue on that basis?! That's insane.

And, to emphasise:

"What I don’t want is the extremely violent, sexually depraved, drug use games in Australia at all"

Oh wow, don't you just love stuck-up little asshats like him?

Obviously only his superior brain is capable of deciding what Australian adults can and cant see. D:<

Adults are incapable of choosing for themselves. THAT IS SERIOUSLY WHAT HE JUST SAID!

“Well, I wouldn’t put it past the Classification Board to make that an R rated game, frankly, on their previous form,” he replied.

Come on, that doesn't even make sense! Does this guy even know what he is talking about? Seriously? He just complained there WAS no R18 classification! (Through his own fault even.)
"When it was suggested to Atkinson that, as Attorney-General, he would be responsible for drawing up the guidelines for an R18+ rating if it were introduced, and thus he would be able to ensure that such “extremely violent, sexually depraved, drug use games” would still be refused classification, he once again reiterated his lack of faith in the Board.

“I have no trust in the Classification Board to apply the guidelines sincerely and correctly,” he said. “And thus to draw up such guidelines would be to do so in sure and certain knowledge that they would be stretched and then broken.”

Read as: They wont be used EXACTLY AS I WANT, so I'm taking my ball and going home!

Holy crap, this guy is so fucking irritating, I just want to punch him in the face D:<

Anyway... this particular game. Isn't this the game that was in the papers a while ago...? ZOMG!11! YOU PLAY AS EVIL TERRORISTS AND HAVE TO SHOOT INNOCENT PEOPLE!!!!!11

Now -- keep in mind I know nothing about this game apart from that beat-up article I read, so I could just be making shit up -- but from what I can gather by reading between the lines... it's actually not that bad, and I thought it was quite cleverly done.

The terrorist part? That's one of many many missions in the story line*. You spend the rest of the time playing as the 'good guys' fighting against the terrorists.

In this mission as the terrorists, you have to massacre innocent and unarmed civillians at an airport (I think, I cant find the original article I read... It was on The Age though, not something like The Herald Sun. haha I value my blood pressure too much to read that...)

Am I the only person who though that... hey MAYBE the player isn't meant to think "OH WOW KILLING THESE UNARMED INNOCENTS SURE IS FUN *SLAUGHTERS*" and it's actually supposed to show how evil the terrorists are and be idk... DISTURBING.

Yanno, LIKE IN REAL LIFE.

While trying to find the article in question, I came across a related headline about it, paraphrased: "Gamers disturbed by video game[yes, this one]"

WOW STOP THE PRESSES! A GAME MEANT TO BE DISTURBING IS FOUND TO BE DISTURBING!!** Yeah... nice to see the media Not Getting It. (I didn't actually bother to read the article, but considering all other 92 articles I can take a guess as to what stance they took)

*Which is fucking hilarious, because a lot of the complaints in the article was that this "wasn't in the trailer". Well, fucking DUH. It's meant to be a surprise maybe? A massive spoiler? IT"S ONLY A TINY PART OF THE GAME??! And: Would YOU expect to see the climax/plot twist in a movie trailer?!

** Also, shouldn't we be more worried if they didn't think the game (well, that part specifically) was disturbing..? WTF.

*sigh* Why are there so many idiots in my country?! srsly, when did Australia become the censorship capital of the world? Don't even get me started on the net filter... >.>

Holy fuck, if this game wasn't so expensive I'd be getting on a bus right now just to go buy the damn game out of pure spite.

(And, stupid question time.... If that Atkinson guy is only the SA attorney-general, why does he have control of the whole country's ratings system? I mean, WTF! I know it's unlikely, but couldn't Rudd just turn around and tell him to STFU and implement a R18 rating for video games?)
